Did you remember in Gran Turismo #31 : The RUF 3400S '00

The description from “Gran Turismo”

While many knowledgeable car enthusiasts are quick to lump Ruf Automobile into the “tuner” category, the truth is that the Porsche based machines developed by master automotive craftsman Alois Ruf in his native Deutschland are certified as coming from a full bore automobile manufacturer.

Regardless of which side of the debate you may stand, there’s no denying that the 3400S is an infinitely more refined machine than the stock Porsche Boxster. Ruf technicians performed a heart transplant by substituting the capable stock Boxster powerplant with a Ruf massaged 3.4 liter flat 6 sourced from the roadster’s big brother, the Porsche 911, that made 306 HP (304 BHP) at 6800 rpm and peak torque of 265,4 ft-lb (360 nm) at 4750 rpm, thanks to the engine’s high 11.3:1 compression ratio and dual Ruf Performance System exhaust.

The company then performed a full tilt handling upgrade with the addition of a Ruf Sports System package that includes an upgraded suspension, along with ventilated disk at all corners that employed new monoblock 4 piston brake calipers up front and stylish new 5 spoke 18 inch wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero Asimetrico tires that featured a wide footprint of 255/40ZR 18s at the bow, 265/35ZR 18s at the stern.

This Ruf’s aesthetics take a further departure from Porsche’s Boxster thanks to attractive optional exterior features including a front spoiler, side skirts and aerodynamically enhanced side mirrors

Supplement of me

Introduced in 1999, this Ruf 3400S is the first “entry level” model and first vehicle based on Porsche’s then-new Boxster. It was centered mainly around an engine-swap (with the lightly tuned version of the Porsche 911 (996)’s Flat 6 3.4 L made 306 HP instead of the Flat 6 2.5 L which made 200 HP). In order to properly handle the new engine, Ruf amends the original Boxster structure (new suspensions; brakes; wheels;…) With all its changes on the car, it becomes more aggressive.

Well, the Flat 6 3.4 L developed 306 HP with 360 nm of torque. It weight 1298 kg. It 0-62 mph reached at 5.1 sec (It out-corner a Ferrari, but it’s still a hairdresser’s car). and the top speed is 282 kph (175 mph). The gearbox is a 6-speed manual transmission. Basically, if you are a young driver making his first steps in the world of sport, do not drive this 3400S because it hard on the rear wheels and a crash can happen quickly ! Compared to the Boxster S, the 3400S is almost a full second faster to 60 mph, and 2.2 seconds quicker to the top speed. Well, In fact, the RUF 3400S and the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet offer virtually identical performance

It only 12 3400S made and it’ll be hard to find another one : With a asking price of $ 60.000 (£45.767,70 or € 54.657) its a little expensive, but with such low production numbers finding the true market.

Well, this power-to-weight ratio is 4.2 kg/hp, the equivalent of a 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL 600 (500 hp); an 2010 Audi RS5 (450 hp); a 2003 BMW M3 3.2 CSL (360 hp) and an 2012 Audi S8 4.0 TFSI (520 hp).

The RUF 3400S is an exclusive “Gran Turismo” !

A video on YouTube of this model IRL :

Unfortunately, this is the only video (with a video quality s*) on YouTube which is centered on the 3400S in real life (The documentary on the history of RUF speak very briefly and motrant the 3600S, not the 3400S.)
