Street Legal Racing : Redline (2003) Review #blogpost

Street Legal Racing : Redline is a street racing game made by Invictus Games in 2003. It is one of the most frustrating games that I have ever played.

The game doesn’t have licensed cars, but it does have cars that look very similar to what they’re based on (e.g. The Einvagen is based on a Volkswagen Golf MK III). Although you can’t get licensed cars, this game does have a huge mod community, and you can get all kinds of cars such as a Jaguar MK II.

For 2003, the cars aren’t actually that bad, well at least you can tell what they’re based on. Overall the graphics on the cars are alright.

The upgrading is what makes this game so frustrating. Unlike other car games where you just buy parts and let the game install them for you, you have to put those parts on yourself. All that would be fine is it was so easy to get the engine working after. It’s very easy to forget about a part that you’ve taken off the engine, so you have to make a mental note of what you’ve taken off the engine, because the game puts all the stock parts and all the aftermarket parts in the same place.

The aftermarket parts are worth the money (sort of). I spent somewhat $5000 getting the Einvagen (Golf MK III) from 130 BHP to about 200 BHP.

The game play makes the game feel like that it has no soul. That might sound weird, but it feels like the developers didn’t give a sh!t when making it. The physics are worse than those of old Flash games. And sometimes that makes some races impossible to win.

The map seems to be the main focus when the game was being made, although that too is also sh!t. It looks like that it was converted form an early smart phone game, you know, the free knock off games.

To sum up this review, everything about this game isn’t sh!t, but slightly better than sh!t. Overall I give this game 3 out of 10.

The game worked fine. Sort of. The game is good if you mod it like crazy.
