1985 Volkswagen Atlantic (jetta mk1)

this is my 1985 vw mk1 jetta its a mexican jetta so its called atlantic.it has a 1.7 8 valve engine and 4 speed manual gearbox.
Its my first car i have a year and 2 months with it and i love every second of it, it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, it all started when i was in a mechanics school near my father’s work and every time i went out of school i walked in that street and i saw that old and forgotten volkswagen and at the time i didn’t like VW at all but i knew that car had potential. And one day of december i go to work to my father after school and he shows me a set of keys and he said i bought an atlantic and i was super exited about it. We rolled the car to my father’s office and start working on it. My dad’s friend helped me to get it runing it took us quite some time and it also needed a lot of things, we rebuilt the carb worked on the timing and in a week and a half it was runing and ready to go home, and that didn’t go that well we had problems with the points distributor where the points had too much of a gap but it still ran then we stoped for a while to cool it down and my father shuts the engine with the radiator fan on (it was conected directly to the battery) and so the battery was drained and my dad cranks it and slowly gaining pace and then boom! it starts and we continue our journey. then the pivit ball of the shifter broke and it was a nightmare geting into gear. but my dad kept going, and then we were at a stop light and as soon as it turns green the car shuts off so we had to push the car to the side of the road in the middle of traffic, i open the hood and i see the fuel filter with a big hole in it but here is something unvelivable i had a spare fuel filter in my back pack and so we install it and we are going again and from there it was pretty much smooth sailing until it overheated few blocks away from home, and this is where i almost had a heart attack i open the hood and the radiator fan was disconected and so we pushed it home. The next day we fired it up and took it to the workshop i work and start fixing it. It now runs like a champ ive spent over 1000 dollars on parts and the car costed 300 dlls.
