1990 BMW 316i E30
The E30 celebrated it’s 24th birthday just before I turned 18 and could spend all the money I worked for for two years besides school on a car I don’t even need.
But why would someone make such an idiotic decision? I guess I don’t have to answer that question to you here since you all know the answer.
The E30 is a car I always had a thing for since my childhood. I especially love the M3 E30 but starting at ten(!) times the price I payed for my 316i I think it might be just a bit too expensive for me. So I went for the next best thing - the 1.6 liter, 100HP, 141Nm monster.
I studied the car market online one year before I was legally allowed to even drive cars on the road and tried to learn as much about E30s as possible to find a good car for a reasonable price. And I did. On the last day of my minority I visited the guy who wanted to sell a dolphin metallic E30 (yes, that is the offical colour name). I checked it out and on the test drive I realized that that was the first time I drove a car without power steering and RWD myself. Needless to say, I bought it. And one week later I also bought some BBS Kreuzspeichen wheels to fit the car’s image.
Of course it has some optical flaws but I am doing my best to get rid of them one after another.
The car has been lowered a little bit by the previous owner who also put a custom exhasut on to let the M40 engine produce a bit rawer sound. I like that and I will keep it.
The car has done 150k Km (about 94k miles) and every single one I add to that is a lot of fun (and burns a hole in my pocket but that’s okay).
