4 Reasons I love the Mercedes Benz brand.

1. The star

In Poland we have a sentence “Bez gwiazdy nie ma jazdy”, which means “There is no ride without a star”. In my life I have driven many cars, but in the ones with a star I felt the best. There is something unspoken, when on the top of Your hood You have the circle with three rays in it.
Some say it depends what car You drive the first: If you drive the BMW, You’ll never have the Mercedes. And if You have the Mercedes, You will never have the BMW. I think, there is a reason for that. This two German automakers make a special atmosphere inside their cars. But in the one with the star, You simply fall in love. And that’s incurable.

2. The comfort

I have heard many times, that “Now they don’t produce cars, like they were 15,20, or 25 years ago”. So I had to check this fact on my own. I drove the 1997 C180, and I loved it. If I had to choose a car for a 1000-mile trip, between the C180 and a new Kia Sportage, I’d chose the Merc. I thought that if people say, that newer cars aren’t so good, the W202 C180 has the ultimate comfort, and there is no newer car, that can beat it in this way. Then I drove the 2007 C-class. And it was even better.
My first ride in that car was in the back seat. After10 kilometres in not so good Polish roads, I felt relaxed like after a Thai massage done by Scarlett Johansson.

3. M156 engine

Yeah, I know. This engine should be under the “Reasons why I love AMG” article. But, like the M-Power for BMW, AMG is a Mercedes factory tuner, so that’s why I placed it here.
There is a legend that says, that this engine was created by a group of Mercedes engineers after working hours. It was a joke. Something too crazy to put in the pure German car. It was too big. Too loud. Too insane. But for a reason, they put it into c-class. And that was a bombshell.
They put a V8, 6208cc monster into a simple, family car. That turned it into rubber-burning, roaring missile. With 457 HP, the C63 AMG became a true competitor to cars like BMW M3, or Audi RS4. In my opinion, this is one of the best engines ever made.

4. It’s Mercedes!

Let me show you an example. You are the young, handsome man and you’re looking for some chicks in the club. When You get one, say that You can drive her home in Your MERCEDES. That could raise your chances by 500%. Of course, in case You are driving a Rover, You can also say that. But bear in mind, that, for example in Poland, word “Rover” is equal to “bicycle”. That will really have influence on the place of Your sleeping.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to say, that all women in the world are money-spending, heart-breaking machines. But it’s nice to say to Your newly meet, wealthy friends, that You can’t wait to ride home in Your old, good C-class. I’m sure, they will shake their heads with approval and drink for that.

I agree with all of these points except for the comfort. My W202 C280 Sport has stiffer euro C36 AMG springs and Bilstein HD shocks with solid front and rear sway bars and it’s really stiff, although I guess that’s because of me, not the car’s fault. But I’d take my W202 on a long road trip over my BMW in a heart beat :D It’s only overly stiff with summer tires and really bumpy roads, on the highways it’s superb :)

I cant agree with the first point. Ive driven a BMW X5 3.0i and a Merc Clk 270 cdi. I know they are two very different cars but I guess , like you said , the atmosphere in BMW suited me more.

I love Mercedes-Benz too - the history, the quality, the way it feels, everything the three pointed star stands for. I’ve driven BMW and Audi and they do make good cars, but there’s something special about a Merc. For me, anyone who compares Mercedes-Benz to Audi or BMW is somehow missing the point.
