Great Winter Beaters for Europe for under 1000 Euros
I’ve read the post about great winter beaters under 1000 Dollars, but it annoyed me that the list was created for the US and/or Canada. So I have created common cheap winter beaters for Europe for about 1000 Euros and that are easy to fix.
Volkswagen Golf
While not very fast they are very durable and very easy to fix. Parts are easy to find on the scrapyard. It doesn’t matter if Hatch or Variant, they won’t let you down when you need em.
The green one has 176.000 kms down with an 1.6 petrol engine while the red variant has a 1.9 Diesel with 247.000 kms. Don’t turn your head away from the high mileage, Volkswagen Diesels are very long lasting and easy to fix.
BMW E36 3 Series
Most of the E36s in the classifieds are basic motorised with a 316i, tho you can find 320i and up when you search long enough. The pure fun machine thanks to it’s rear wheel drive.
The black 318is has done already 224.000 kms while the silver compact 316i only has done 154.000 kms. Super fun when wet, even with the basic engine.
Mercedes W202 C-Class
A very comfortable ride and many electronics make this a flagship for a winter beater - but very sensitive for electronic problems. Many are with automatic so finding a manual needs more search.
Choose between limousine or T-Model. the limousine has done 202.000 kms while the T-Model 260.000.
Opel Corsa
Generation B or C, your choice. Watch out for rust! But they’re very reliable and easy to fix with the basics of fixing. Low HP and low weight so you struggle when you need to get up a hill.
The Purple Corsa B has done 178.000 kms while the Silver C 240.000 kms. They will last through a winter when you don’t overdo it with the speed.
Ford Focus
Easy to mantain and capable of carrying many car parts - what do you want more? Most Focuses you’ll find sub 1000 Euros are equipped with the Trend trim - the cheapest. But less electronic, less fixing!
Silver hatch has (only!) done 119.00 kms while the black turnier 260.000 kms.
I own none of these cars and all rights goes to their advert on the car listing page.
Comments
Opel omega is a good winter beater also. It has 5 seats is rwd and can be hooned in snow or wet conditions easily (with lsd or welded diff) and best part is their dirt cheap
Yes but I didn’t wanted to include Opel twice, although the Omega is a great car. Heavy but big engines
Now that is a list that is eligible to my standarts! Eastern Europe, Lithuania :D I see these cars everyday
but there are very popular in other countries too (germany for example)
Thanks for the interesting post!
