Help me work out the difference between a WING and a SPOILER... (more in comments)

This is how I think they work but I’m not sure if it’s right…

WING - CREATE DOWNFORCE
The wing directly creates downforce by deflecting air flow upwards which pushes the rear of the car down.

SPOILER - PREVENT LIFT
The spoiler is there to prevent the high pressure air flow from entering the low pressure pocket at the rear of the car. The air hits the spoiler and deflects it above the low pressure pocket preventing the car from lifting.

Does my explanation make any sense?

Having a low pressure area creates a vacuum effect which sucks your car towards the ground. That’s the basics of how down-force works. The higher the pressure the harder it gets sucked. basically the faster you drive the harder the vacuum sucks your car into the ground. Engineering explained has a youtube video explaining everything. But yes your explanation makes sense haha

He doesn’t really explain how it reduces lift on the car though…

Not sure if I get it correctly, but in short: Wings make you corner faster (I assume if the car is RWD). And spoiler is to go faster in straight line. ?

I think both of them are to improve traction by pushing the car against the ground, they just achieve it in different ways. FWD cars can still benefit from a wing though. Most FWD cars are front heavy so bringing the rear down can equalize the weight distribution and improve the handling but the car would have to be going pretty fast for any real positive effect.
