I always wait 30 seconds ever sense I saw the carthrottle vid when Ethan was crying and had to go to the hospital and Alex didnt move the car because “90% of engine ware happens in the first 30 seconds”

I usually let it get to operating temp but when I can’t I wait until the engine idles down and then take it easy.

I just wait until i hear the engine change the sound(old car) then drive careful for 10 km so i know for sure it is all warm and safe and then floor it

I am studying to be a mechanic, and i learnt at school last week that idling is very bad for the engine, because you polish the cylinder walls, thereby ruining the honing so that the oil doesn’s stick to the cylinder walls properly as it should. Also, 1 hour of idling with a turbo engine equals 40000 driven km. I usually start up, wait 30sec to 1min, and then drive carefully until the temp gauge shows operating temp. and then some. If it’s cold outside an electric heater, or diesel/gas extra heater is worth it’s weight in gold!

That’s crazy does it actually damage it?

I usually wait 30 seconds to let all the oil flow round the engine. Then I’ll start driving around calmly. Once I see my coolant temperature reach operating temperature I’ll give it another ten minutes of driving calmly to let the oil warm up (oil takes longer to warm up than coolant). Then it should be ok to start hooning it.

If you haven’t got a coolant temperature sensor I find a good way to sense how warm the coolant is by turning the heaters on max. You’ll slowly feel the air coming from the heaters getting warmer. You’ll very quickly get a rough idea of when the coolants at operating temperature.

I just wait until the revs get down to 1000.

Five minutes for a modern one, maybe ten for older cars

I start mine up, put seat belt on and drive under 2k until my oil gauge is the correct temperature. Coolant warms up quicker thanthan oil so be careful.

Also sitting at idle damages the engine as theres not enough pressure from the pump at idle to effectively circulate the oil.
