If you could take any normal car, preferably one that never had a 'hot' version, and then turn it into a hotter sport model of itself, what would you pick and what would you do to it?

My choice would be an 2001 Infiniti G20 (P11 chassis). I think it was also called a Nissan Primera outside of the US. This was my first car (not this picture, but almost identical) and I loved it to death even though it was an automatic. Sadly it was involved in 4 accidents, only 1 of which was truly my fault, and it ended up being totaled.

The G20 comes stock with multi-link front suspension and an SR20DE engine. If I had my car to do over again, I would start by converting it to manual and add new front bucket seats. If funds weren’t an issue, I’d source an SR20DET and swap it in, convert to AWD, lower and stiffen the suspension, and swap wheels and tires. Tune the motor to about 450 hp. The body kit would be modest, only slightly hinting at the beast that the car really is.

Citroën C4 2.0 VTS… But… With much more ooomph and AWD.

Almost like, say, a street-legal WRC car… Including WRC rear wing.

Sexy, sexy French back end

Mazda should build, a Mazdaspeed 2? The 2015 looks pretty cool. Maybe a 2 door+hatch, turbo charged AWD with either 6spd manual or shifty paddles?

That sounds hectic!
I think Mazda makes some really decent cars these days but they aren’t awfully exciting. I was annoyed when I heard the new rx-7 wasn’t going to get made. Your idea of a Mazdaspeed 2 sounds like it’d be a good chance for them to show us that they can still produce a really exciting car.
