I live in Murica so you should already know. But I’m from Dominican Republic and you can’t import a car that is older than 5 years, so right now the oldest car you can import is a 2010 one.

Saudi Arabia has the same law. So if you want to import a car thats over 5 years old you register it in Bahrain or the UAE.

In California, if you import a car newer than 1975, it’s subject to DIRECT import laws, so it has to conform to US standards. Who the f*** cares if my headlights are a bit too bright or the brake lights pulse under hard braking?

The issue is emissions. 25yr rule is EPA federal exempt, but state rules still apply.

Cars older than 25 years are DOT exempt. can have whatever lights and crash standards you want, as long as they have lights mirrors and signals

I live in murica so it’s pretty obvious. But I did see an R34 yesterday. Shame I didn’t snap a pic of it.

Dude I saw an R34 a few weeks back, too. It was on my way to work, and white, and oh so clean. I was in such shock and filled with awe that, just like you, I didn’t even snap a picture. It’s an experience seeing one of those in a country that won’t let you import them.

I live in Colombia, and we have something called “Pico y Placa”. In the capital, Bogotá, if you cars plate ends up in an even number, you can’t drive your car on odd numbered days of the month, same for the plates that end in odd numbers. You can’t drive from 6-10am and from 4-9 pm… It’s absurd, people have basically to buy two cars, or just buy a car to drive it half of the week. In other cities its different, less severe, but still…

I’m from Colombia too, bro! don’t forget that we can’t import used cars, and the taxes to import a new one by your own are of the 90% of the price of the car. I also think that pico y placa thing is really annoying… just to avoid talking about our mayor ¬¬
