The Last Ever McLaren P1 Has Just Rolled Off The Production Line
See that lovely orange beast on the right in the picture above? That’s the last ever McLaren P1. The 903bhp hybrid hypercar - powered by McLaren’s now familiar 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor - actually sold out before the first car was delivered, such was demand, but it’s taken Woking until now to meticulously piece together all 375 examples.
Production of the track-only P1 GTR will continue until early 2016, but after that, this generation of McLaren’s ‘Ultimate Series’ range of cars will come to an end. As with when production of the Porsche 918 Spyder (one of the P1’s arch rivals, as you should know by now) ended, this has us wondering about the future. Where will McLaren go for its next hypercar? Perhaps an even more powerful car? Maybe a smaller engine and more electric power?
The P1, 918 and the LaFerrari have all pushed the boundaries of what we expect from hypercars - both in their raw numbers and the way they achieve them - so it’ll be fascinating to see where the trio of manufacturers go next.
What are your predictions for the P1’s successor?
