My rant about this new car, the Citroën C4 Cactus and its rubber sides.

The Citroën C4 Cactus has this rubber side panel, the Citroën website has this to say:

“The Airbump® panels are a global exclusive that blend quirky style with innovative function. They protect your car from minor everyday bumps and scrapes, while adding to your Citroën C4 Cactus’ unusual, eye-catching design. The clever Airbump® panels are made from supply TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) and include tiny air capsules that absorb impacts and help prevent scratches. They don’t need any maintenance and help cut costs from small scratches and bumps.”

Surely if you are the kind of person who can accumulate every day scratches and bumps, you probably shouldn’t be driving a car. This is making the roads easier to use, which is something that we don’t want. Roads and driving standards are much worse than they should be, it is probably too easy to get a license in the majority of countries and when driving you often wonder what that fool in front is doing. As for the aesthetics, I think I would rather drive a car with a huge scratch down the side instead of this lump of rubber. Whilst I applaud Citroëns creativity on the matter, I think the matter is one that shouldn’t be sold, and people who can be getting these kinds of scratches should learn to take better care of their cars.
