Seat leon mk1 engine swap question.
So i have a 1.4 leon mk1 and i would like to swap a 1.8t engine into it.
Can’t find a 1.8t cupra cheap, so my options are limited to a golf mk4 or an a3, and also a4 and passats which have their engines mounted longitudinally. The question here is will the engines fit into the car without major modifications?

Fairly easy swap to do yes, the mounts are all in the same areas and it’s likely that your gearbox would bolt up too (yet it’s worth considering upgrading the mounts to polybushed ones or at least the mounts from the donor cars, and upgrading the gearbox to one that’s more suited to the power of the engine). You need to ensure you but the 1.8T engine with all ancillaries too (inlet manifold, turbo, coils etc etc) and the ECU (with the ignition barrel and key if possible so that you don’t have to get the immobiliser removed by a mapping company).
Don’t forget to upgrade the brakes and suspension accordingly to be able to cope with the extra power and small increase in weight loading, the ones from the leon Cupra should be a direct swap without any issues (Brembos as standard on those too from memory). 1.8 20v Turbo AGU engine tends to be the strongest with forged pistons and forged crank as standard, and the BAM engine has fairly high power as standard too.
Ok thanks. Thats good as i have my eyes on a 1.8t passat (150bhp). My plan is buy a donor car and to just swap all of the engine with the subframe and suspension front and back(all that is needed) into my leon so that it will require the least amount of time to do. Already planing to upgrade all bushes to poly as well as coilovers.
