This should have came from the factory. #FieroNation
This awesome Fiero belongs to Jayson from Edmonton, AB:
- 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT
- 3.4L DOHC GM Crate
- 282 5 Spd Muncie Getrag
- 17’ MSR’s on Falken tires
- Ferrari 355 front end (TBH, it suits the car well. It isn’t a wacko body kit Testarossa—it’s a Fiero!)
This set up is one of the most desired, due to the powerful 3.4L DOHC and 5 Spd set up. Handles better than modern sports cars , sounds even better.

Muncie getrag? Fieros had either a 4 speed Muncie or a 5 speed getrag… the 5 speed was only available in 87-88 models and was an option in all permutations from the GT, the Aero, the Formula, and the SE notchback…. I prefer the getrag even though the Muncie shifted smoother. With Rodney’s short throw kit it just feels better shifting and with a 2 inch throw it’s nice to have the stiffer getrag. And the getrag with the short shift took out a lot of the stick float the Muncie had.
But the 3.4 is an awesome swap. I like the idea of a dohc fiero and in my opinion sounds better with a 3 inch pipe.
It is sometimes referred to as the Muncie 282 or the Muncie Getrag 282, as the transmission was manufactured by the Muncie, Indiana manual transmission plant. It’s a great engine. It suits the Fiero well :-)
That’s just confusing to me I’m sorry xD
Sorry mate, didn’t mean to confuse you >.<
You wouldn’t happen to know the wheel width on that car would you? I’m trying to find new wheels to replace the honeycomb on my formula but they had a 7 inch front and an 8 inch back… finding that offset in a set of matching wheels with the factory bolt pattern is proving difficult but if I go to 8 inches all around the front tires will stick out from under the car slinging dort and road grime onto the paint.
Or do you think it’d be easier to just go wider and change from the factory 44 offset to like a 42? I believe that would push the wheels more under the car.
There is a lot of information regarding ‘88 tire/rim size. I’ve located the appropriate thread, as I feel that will give you a broader spectrum for your selection. :-)
