What is with the Americans and their truck/pick-up fetish. Why would you need to own one unless you move stuff 24/7? Why you people buy them?

Some people like the torque their engines offer. Some people have trailers to haul. Some people do construction. Some use them for offroading. But, as my father owns one, I know that some can be surprisingly spacious and comfortable.

Then why would you not just get one of these? I bet that Bmw is more comfortable than a truck

It’s an American thing. The funny thing is, is that 90% of the time, people just use them as daily drivers. Most of the time, you buy one because you want one, not because you need one. They are also good in the snow and off road.

But how many of them actually off road and i live in finland, near the arctic circle and i dont need a truck to go around in winter. Last winter i drove a Mini and it did fine

That can apply to any car. I don’t need a car because I live in a city atm and train or bus can take me anywhere I need to get in Finland. But still, yesterday I went ahead and bought myself a Corolla, because I wanted a car :)

Estates FTW. If you need to go off road buy a Land Rover. If you don’t buy something like an M5 touring for that kind of money and fuel consumption.

And you can get the 530d and tune it to 350bhp and over 700nm of torque

Im not sure if you are just really rich and affluent or trolling, but buying a truck for offroading is A LOT cheaper than buying a Land Rover or a BMW. Plus trucks are some of the most indestructible vehicles on Earth (unlike Land Rovers). Theres a man with over a million miles on his Silverado HD. And this is one million miles of towing heavy loads. Plus its easy to mod trucks for extreme offloading.

cheap fuel, wides roads, lot of room inside, can tow if it needs to, can put a lot of crap in the bed (and let it there for 6months…), big V8, big wheels, feeling of safety (false feeling of safety), and on top of that, it shows how big your manhood is !

Capability, I might not need to haul 15000 lbs or more all the time but when I do I have the ability, I grew up with trucks being used as trucks and that’s why I love them. When it comes to hard work, hauling, towing, and the need for torque are you going to trust your wagon to do that or a vehicle who was created to do that?

Trucks can do pretty much anything and everything, whether it’s towing an 11,000-pound trailer full of stones or bringing the kids to school and everything in between. They can haul a lot, and thanks to their comfortable suspension and general legendary reliability, they can do so over long distances, and can keep at it for decades upon decades. That, and with big roads, cheap fuel and a strong DIY presence, America (and Canada too) and trucks are a match made in heaven.

Oh, and they are almost indestructible, laugh in the face of terrible weather conditions and look absolutely awesome.

One thing I absolutely can’t stand is trucks with tonneau covers

Why not? They keep people from seeing cargo you have in your box and stop them stealing your sh*t.

Well my dad has an f-150 and he is a yard man so he pulls a trailer with lawn equipment and occasionally a dump bed when he does tree removal. I may not need one but I grew up around them so…

Well its just that America is a huge place. I can ask the same question, what is up with Japanese people and their fetish for really small tiny cars? Its because their country is small and roads are small. Simple. Plus pick ups are practical. Though mine wouldnt be able to haul its self its reliable and parts are cheap cause they’re everywhere.

The real question is: why wouldn’t you buy one? Out here in Australia, I consider it a feat to reach the remote Outback, and what better way to get there than with my trusty pick-up?
