What do the numbers for a Camshaft and Head set mean? Ex. 278, 288, etc. Is it the bigger the number the more power or does it have something to do with timing?

The are two measurements, duration and valve lift. The duration of measured in degrees ex 278, 288 like you gave. This measures how long the valve will stay open. For example, 278 degrees of rotation of the roller the valve will be closed. The other 82 degrees of rotation is where the valve will be open. Valve lift in inches (srry I’m murican) is how high the valve comes up. More lift means more flow. Also keep in mind that these movements are not instantaneous and need to be accounted for when picking a camshaft. You don’t need to do a huge amount of research but some of this stuff can quickly start to sound like rocket science.
