What’s the difference between rev matching with only disengaging the clutch once? I don’t understand it if he said it :/

You can basically think of it as “Rev-matching for the the layshaft”

If you have an unsynchronized reverse gear like in a Mini R50 just let of the clutch if your gear doesn’t go in, push it back in and it will go in most of the time. Never really understood why but now i do!!!

The thing I don’t get is why would you double clutch when you can simply apply the clutch, shift from 4 to 3, rev-match whilst doing this, and then just release the clutch again?
Putting it in neutral seems like it just takes up more time?

You would only double clutch in a car that has either broken or no synchros in the tranny. Otherwise you would do as you explained, if I’m correct. That’s what I do aha.

For 99% of US truck drivers it is norm… they have to double clutch.

So why would you need to double clutch in a drag race….?

I found that your explanation was very clear and idiot proof, I enjoyed watching it. Thanks!

The reason truck drivers do this is because those transmissions normally have straight cut gears. So instead of a synchro engaging the gears the gears themselves are being moved with the gear shifter and meshing (hence the grinding heard when not done properly). Reverse is normally a straight cut gear For the ford guys, shifting from first to reverse allows the lay shaft and input shaft to come to a close speed and giving a smooth shift into reverse.
