I prefer rev matching… Because on busy roads where some people drive like proper lunatics double clutching can be really dangerous.

What year did synchros become standard?

7 minutes to change from 4th to 3rd is still a quicker shift than my mate Harry.

Always been told its ‘double de-clutching’ and only really useful if you are driving a old truck with no synchromesh on the gears. Unless of course you have a dog box with no synchros, and you might double de clutch if you decide to drive like a granny.

Well yes but double clutching also properly unloads the engine so there isn’t much stress and will save you in the long run in terms of repair and longevity.

I can’t understand the difference between this and rev matching

when you rev match you do it while you are dropping the clutch, when you double clutch you rev it more in neutral then shift, very similar yet different

So Double Clutching goes together with Rev-Matching?

Correct. It’s a rev-matching for synchro-less (worn synchros) transmissions.

Once you try it it’s not. You just have to practise, do it step by step and gradually speed up the process.

I’ve been doing this since I was 16. Didn’t know what it’s called or benefits that time but knew downshift can be done without clutch.
