So you can see what to top side is? Haha
yellow band indicates that the deadlock of the steering wheel

Well, here we can see a non- petrolhead outside their natural habitat
Good thing is learning to live here
It’s a quick visual tool for when you are sliding sideways, or recovering from a spin as you may not be pointing the way you think you are.
The more the stripe is off centre when driving, the more speed you are scrubbing off…(thanks for your help anyway guys)
If you do rally or drift events it can be a very useful tool. Since you can turn the wheel twice or 3 times before hitting the maximum turning radius. With those multiple turns of the wheel and you can lose sight to when it’s dead center ‘cuz you can still have that tape centered at the top of the steering wheel but still have the wheels(Tires) turned slieghtly and not pointed straight forward. So while making drastic manuevers you keep a mental count on how many turns you have made with the steering wheel and how many turns it has to make to get back to center position. All this just by watching the steering wheel with your periferral vision. Kinda like at the tip of your nose
i think to indicate that it is the top?
It’s to match the off-center racing stripes on fast cars.
If it points straight up, your wheels are straight. Unless of course you’ve made more than one turn in the same direction, but you can count those as you go.
