The first mod I would do is get a racing steering wheel :D

I wouldn’t unless you had bucket seats and harness, if not you will go flying straight into the steering wheel with no cusion

Wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, power — in that order.

Also: the natural home of a Miata is autocross. When you add more power, I recommend a supercharger rather than a turbo, for a more precise powerband (lag can be bad in a tight handling course).

Rollbar, strut towers, bigger wheels/tires (wider), upgraded brakes/master cylinder, coilovers, LSD, then build up the engine (maybe supercharge/turbo?).

Safety first bud. Enhance what can make the car stop and keep you alive before you increase how hard you can crash.

Kinda why rally cars get stripped to the core, get that massive rollcage, then the seats/harnesses, suspension, trans, etc, etc- THEN the engine.
