The World of Online Car Configurator
We all love cars. And we also like our cars to match our demands and specs. When you go to a (new car) dealership, you always want to configure your future car to be just like what you want it to be. Now we can spec our dream cars with your fingers and a laptop with the presence of online car configurators. What is an online car configurator? It’s basically a manufacturer’s website page that allows you to configurate your cars and then request it to a certain dealership near you and then you get that exact car on the dealership. Now, I looked around the internet, configurate some cars, and tell you the ups and downs
Maserati
First, we will go to Italy with Maserati. The car configurator is very simple and simply nice. It’ll show you every detail of what you’re going to put to your Maserati. The 3D model of the car is surprisingly very fast to load with my Intel Atom HP Mini shitbox. At first, I was afraid with all its 3D models that will take decades to load but, it’s actually very fast to load even with an Intel Atom shitlaptop. The downsides, well, it has a very nice 3D model of the car, it’s not that well detailed, though. And other car configurators have a 360 degree view mode, this one doesn’t which is a big disappointment.
Ferrari
We’re still in Italy. Heck, we’re still in the FIAT-Chrysler group. Ferrari. The Ferrari online configurator could be one of the most detailed online configurators today. From the screenshot above, you can see just how detailed that configurator is. It has a 360 degree view which is something that Maserati doesn’t have, and the 3D model is waaaaaaaaayyyy more detailed than the Maserati one. However, unlike the Maserati which is quick loading, the Ferrari, it will take you ages to get loaded up. In my shitbox laptop, it will take you ages unlike the Maserati’s that loads up hella quick. And on the options list, it doesn’t tell you how much the options costs.
Brabus
The most ludicrous (proper) tuning company ever? That’s right. And not only that, their configurator is also pretty amazing. It is simple and in-depth. The car’s 3D model is also very well detailed and it is very high quality. However, you can’t view the interior, just the exterior. How stupid is that? And not only that, it is rather “clunky”.
Jaguar
This is my favorite on this list. It might not be the best, but this is my favorite. Why? The model of the car is very highly detailed and the way that the parts configurations are placed is absolutely neat. It’s also very in-depth about your choices too which is great. But, it took a while for it to load up on my shitbox so, that’s something that I don’t like.
Mercedes-Benz
Hell yes. I am very happy with this one. It is probably the simplest one on this list and that’s why I like it. The options list are placed in a very nice positions. However, I would like some more “in-depth ness” and the it takes me a lot of time to get it loaded up.
Jeep
The Italian side of FIAT-Chrysler configurator is awesome. The American side however, it’s really..shitty, when it’s compared to Ferrari’s or Maserati’s. Sure, it loads really fast and page layout is amazing, I’ll give them that, but the overall quality itself is really disappointing when you compare it to the Italian’s. And if you ended up buying the Jeep, there’s a song that you’re going to sing..
Viper 1 of 1
After a rather crappy Jeep, FCA redeemed themselves with this (before pissing me off again by killing the Viper in 2017). It is sooooo much better than the Jeep, that’s all I can say about it. Downsides are, it is very clunky and it took me a while to load it. I need a better laptop…
McLaren
And finally, we have the guys from Surrey. This is also my favorite side by side with the Jag. Very detailed and high quality, in depth and overall, very, very nice. However, out of the rest on this list, this one took the longest to load it’s really annoying me. I should get a proper laptop.
I put this to the “Ask CT” community because I can’t find a community that suited this post

I think you have really missed out by nolt havng Porsche on this list, every single options is shown on the car once you have put it into 360 degree mode, and is far far smoother than any of these ones, in terms of speed and graphics. If you like detail, then it absoulty shames the McLaren and Jaguar ones.
I mean, you can eveen see the little cameras if you tick the reverse camera option, selecting the 20mm lower sports chassis actuially lopwers the car. Even selecting upgraded stero system changes the speakers
I’m not particularly impressed with the Porsche configurator to be honest..
Missed Rolls-Royce though
But afterall, very good!
