Suggestions for a decent beater?

As much as I love my 67 Cougar I could really use a “better” car as a daily. I’m thinking I might save up all of my cash this summer and get a daily so that my Cougar can just be full time project car.

Since I probably won’t be making more than 3 or 4 thousand dollars over the course of a summer that’s the limit. Other than that, I’d prefer something fast and fun. Doesn’t necessarily need to be pretty or fuel efficient. Don’t much care how old it is so long as it’s fuel injected. It does have to be something I can get locally in the US. I know 4k isn’t really a lot to work with.

So, any ideas?

I picked this up for $575. Doesn’t get much better for the price.

Unfortunately, we don’t have Renault in the States.

Honestly i would buy a corolla with 200+K miles on it, and drive that, they are dirt cheap, and i have never had a corolla die on me before 300K miles.. and by die, i mean the original clutch needed to be replaced at 339K miles..

Camry got 429K miles and needed an exhaust, so i sold it.. Didn’t leak, didn’t burn a drop of anything..

91 Previa Minivan i paid 475 dollars for with 289K miles and it was rear-ended and totaled 7 years later at 916K miles, i drove it to the salvage yard.. (Replaced the SADS, Brakes, and wheel bearings, and a few sets of tires.. )

O_O how is daily driving a 67 Cougar bad? Thats one of the most sexy muscle cars you can buy! When I was like 6 we used to have a blue rusty cougar. Like really rusty. I loved that car. I would just sit and star at it. Then it got taken away because we didn’t want it any more. To this day i have a emotional attachment to the cougar. RIP old friend! :(

It’s certainly not bad. I just can’t take well enough care of her during the school months. And with the car being 50 years old parts tend to want to go out at some point or another. For instance, the float in my carb just went bad. I’d like to be able to wash her every once in a while but the car washes won’t take her. They’re afraid of ripping the mirror off. And with a 3 speed tranny, the fuel economy is far from stellar. And there’s no AC, and I go to college in Arizona. I love driving the Cougar. It’s nice seeing people looking back at it.

Just about any Ford panther body can be picked up cheap. They’re quick, especially for a car that weighs 4,000 lbs., They definitely are fun, especially in the snow, and you can pick a decent one up for less than $2000.

I wish. But the RX8 that are cheap enough aren’t worth buying.

Foxbody mustang. Driftings best kept secret.

I’ve been thinking about the fox bodies. They’re cheap, common, and the aftermarket is huge.

The chances of my finding an NSX are slim to none. I’d jump at the chance, though.
