Colloquially "Rice" means "distastefully modified." It's actual DEFINITION is (Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement) i.e graphics, body kits, canards, interior strip out, etc. A Riced car is simply a race car for the street. (Or at least looks like one)

Actually, rice stands for really idiotic cosmetic enhancement

They are both nice, but one is definitely rice and the other is definitely not.

Or if you’d like, simply, one is race inspired the other is street inspired. Fair enough?

That is interesting. Not doubting you at all. The tuning scene I grew up with was in south central Pennsylvania and the term ricer was a negative term. I first heard the word riceburner back in the early 90’s. But back then, it was trendy to have pastel paint jobs, clear tail lamps and big spoilers. I read an article in Superstreet magazine regarding old tuning trends. Check out the link. http://www.superstreetonline.com/features/1309-top-10-worst-tuner-car-trends/

Lol thanks. Thought that needed clearing up. I think things got blurry when people started saying “rice-box” for a sh!tbox that was of Japanese origin, which, more often than not, was (on a budget) riced out, meaning cheap body kits and stick on vents and such. So the two at some point became interchangeable because there was the war going on and gas cost a fortune so you didn’t really see all too many cars modified respectably. I’d saying after 2005-06 people got it together but before then most of the ‘tuners’ were riceboxed (i.e a distastefully modified WRX per say) ao technically rice but not because of the condition of the car, rather the vague attempt at it. Which is I think what resulted in people instead cramming their cars with audiovisual because gas was too dang expensive to justify driving anywhere haha.

Who knows why.. all I know is history is clear and definitions are defined. Like muscle cars.. don’t even get me going… lol

Also this post is ancient… how did you find it?
