So, how much HP do you need to do simple drifting?
Me and my friend had an argument about drifting with low-powered cars. My friend said that you need at least 160bhp to drift. I told him that you can drift with a car that has under 100bhp, but he said that it’s impossible. I mean you can just clutch-kick and go.. please tell this to my friend.

It’s possible with really crappy rear wheels and make sure to pump them to like 4 bar. It won’t be as good as higher power but it will work okay in lower speeds.
You can drift with 100bhp but it needs under 1000 pounds…
Put bycicle wheels on a light car and you can you can go with a low revving car that has a little bit of torque…also the weight distribution should be more in favor of the front end
I can drift my 94 v6 mustang and it had 145hp 22 years ago.
Technique is more important than power. You can do a Scandinavian flick in pretty much any car with the right skills.
More of a handbrake turn but yeah!
160 is pretty tough. Just sold my mr2 but its not like the back end kicked out easy. Unless it was wet!
My Miata has about 90bhp and probably bad compression. So probably less. Lol
130 and you can drift
All depends on the weight, weight distribution, tires and the driver and maybe street and weather conditions.
It’s not about hp, it’s about power to weight ratio and how the car is built. I’ve drifted my 1cyl Yamaha Grizzly and a 3hp trike. If you can drift with 160hp car which weighs 1200kg, you can drift with 80 hp car which weighs 600kg too. If the tire width is low enough, you can even drift a morgan three-wheeler. that’s about suspension and the weight of the car
