The new Porsche 911 Carrera S (991.2)

This is the new Porsche 911 Carrera S (991.2). Now, the 911 series has become a worldwide phenomenon, ever since the first 911 back in 1963, and all of the new cars that have succeed the original 911 have also been named ‘911’! Since then, there have been many redesigns and updates. The 911 Series includes:
911 (1963-1989)
930 (1975-1989) This is a turbocharged version of the original 911
964 (1989-1994)
993 (1995-1998)
996 (1999-2004) was the breakthrough. This was when the 911 was redesigned and made into it’s modern styling and body.
997 (2005-2008)
997 Gen II (2008-2011)
991(2011-2016)
991.2 (2016-present)

The new 991.2 has a few minor changes over the 991. The biggest noticeable change is the turbochargers! Since the original in 1963, no Porsche 911 Carrera has ever used turbochargers. The new 911 changes that! The new 911 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre flat-6 engine, producing 15kW (20 hp) more power, and consuming less fuel (8.7 L/100kms with manual and 7.7L/100kms with PDK) because of the reduced displacement. Say goodbye to Porsche’s naturally aspirated flat-6 engines. Mourning is over, get over it!

The new 911’s technical specifications!
The Porsche 911 Carrera S produces 309kW (420 hp) at 6,500 RPM, accelerating it from 0-100kph in just 4.1 seconds with the PDK transmission, and 4.3 seconds with the Manual transmission, reaching a maximum speed of 306kph and 308kph respectively!
So could we call all Porsche 911’s made from 2016 upwards 911 turbos? Maybe… Tough question to answer…

Other changes to the new 911 are the design. The overall design of the 911 has been sharpened, with a new front and rear design. The lights are new and improved as well, with “four-spot LED daytime running lights, three dimensional taillights and four-spot brake lights.” New 911 comes with four driving modes, and a ‘SPORT’ button, which maximises response time. The exhaust system has been upgraded with central tail pipes, which will make any passers by turn their heads very quickly! The brake system has been reinforced which increases safety, a new rear-axle steering increases handling and stability on the road, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management comes as standard on all 991.2 models. This System (PASM) electronically adjusts the system that absorbs shocks inside the cabin.

Not only has the performance and design improved, but also the on-board technology. With the Porsche Communication Management (PCM), audio, navigation and communication is incorporated in every 911. Operated by voice control and a 7 inch touchscreen, this is the home of all entertainment in the car. Bose audio comes as standard with 12 speakers around the car. A Burmester High-End Surround Sound System is an optional extra, which maximises audio quality.
Overall, the Porsche 991.2 is an amazing car, with very refined details, and despite the lower displacement, still makes a very demanding sound! There really is no substitute.

I love the new 991 series of porsches. The gt3rs tops the list for me. Plus, porsche have played their cards right by introducing the new 911 r at the Geneva motor show. It shows that they do listen to their customers.
