Peugeot 306 D'Turbo Phase1

Hi CT,
I’ve never done one of these before but I wanna talk a little about the problems and plans I have for this tired, old, slightly unhealthy car.
1995 Peugeot 306 1.9 D’Turbo Phase 1. (aka. “The Pug”) and is used as my daily.

I bought “The Pug” with 7 months MOT for > £500 the week before Christmas 2016 and as I sit and write this (Sunday 5th March) this is the first week I’ve gone without developing a “severe” issue

She has many issues which is to be expected from a 21 year old French hatch back. But nothing that makes it ‘undrivable’.
The first issue was whilst pulling onto my drive outside my house. Applied my handbrake and nearly put my sunroof through after the off side handbrake snapped. I’m still yet to get round to repairing that.
Secondly, the osf spring snapped into 3 parts whilst pulling into a pub car park. After sourcing the only part I could find (on a Sunday) and calling in a favour to get a lift to Birmingham and back it took less than an hour to fit the new part (I know I should change springs in pairs but refer to the plans.) But after putting the wheel back on the ground and driving within a mile it had developed its third issue;
OSF wheel bearing had gone. This wasn’t a big deal to start with as I was only using her to get me to work and back and I would have had this problem fixed within a couple of weeks but it was during this time that she developed her fourth issue.
OSR Brake Discs and Pads. I was aware that the pads were low, I was trying to make them last until I could get “The Pug” in the garage to get the new bearing fitted but the backing of the pad had broken through and completely ruined the drilled and grooved disc.
After this issue I parked her up for a week until I had the parts, time, space and tools to get the job done.
After a week of hitching lifts to and from work and asking friends for lifts here and there, 13 solid hours of skinned knuckles, sore fingertips, aching joints and muscles I finally got my Pug back and with a fresh new bearing which in my opinion has tightened up the steering and a fresh set of discs pads and a complete brake fluid change it feels like a completely different car.
Throwing it into corners at, um… speed and being confident that the front right wheel isn’t going to collapse in on itself and if worse comes to worse that fresh new stopping power has transformed the way that I drive it.
But this isn’t where I want it to stop. My main aim is 230bhp at the wheels and torque to be around the 300ft/lbs mark.
P
I know that I can fit the 406 Coupe V6 Brembo 4-pot brake calipers. They are a straight fit onto 205/206/306/307 hubs with 283 x 26 mm 307 discs or 288 x 28 mm Xantia discs (or any discs up to 330 mm in diameter and 28 mm in width, with the use of custom-made caliper adapters), while on 405 hubs they fit with 406 Coupe V6′s 305 x 28 mm discs.
Suspension wise, I’ve not done as much research. Heard people reverting back to the standard shocks and springs and alignment settings that come on the GTI6 and (I think the later S16).
As for engines, there are 3 ways I could go;

  1. 2.2l hdi engine (becoming hard to find decent ones) and chip tune etc
  2. S16 swap and tune
  3. Gti6 engine and gearbox with a few tweaks.
    “The Pug” is a long way off being anywhere near where I want her to be with her needing a bit of work just to see her through her next MOT but I’m hoping that one day ill have my 230bhp pug and be kicking her head in round some track soon.
    I’ll try and keep you guys updated on work and progress.
    Fingers crossed.
    PS. I’m gonna spam bare about the car for now. My baaaad ✌
