Why I Hate Electric Cars: They Are NOT The Future! #blogpost [WARNING: RANT]
The electric car is something that has been around for a long time. But they have gained popularity in the past few years when a certain few automakers decided that it would be a good idea to sell new ones. Many people will say that the electric car is the future, but trust me, there are actually some legit reasons in this rant why they aren’t.
1. The Automakers/The Environment
The root of the problem is the automakers. Tesla being the main one (I hate Tesla). They make these EVs in an effort to save the environment. In reality, they are just as bad to the environment as fossil fuel cars. For one, they claim that their cars are “zero-emissions”. Think about it, guys, where does electricity come from? Oh yeah, BURNING COAL. As for solar panels and the like? I could make a whole other rant on the effects and inefficiency of those. So “zero-emissions” cars have no IMMEDIATE emissions, but down the line there is pollution occurring. Another reason is how they are made. They are made from metals (which are mined, just like fossil fuels are taken from the ground). They are made in factories, which must be powered by something, right? AND, think about a battery. Batteries like in a Prius are an ecological nightmare; the places they come from, the things they are made from, and how long they will sit decomposing is horrible.
2. The Crowd
Ok, the here’s another reason. The people who are buying these things. Mainly the Teslas. I feel like a Model S P100D is a rich guy’s toy. Why? Because nobody else would buy one. THE two main crowds that will buy these cars are 60+ year old white men (no racism) who want to look cool in front of John and impress their country club buddies, and the other is the rich young Arab guys over in Dubai who are tired of being chauffered around in their “old-school” 2015 Maybach S600s and want to be like the “kool kids”. Seriously, whenever I look at at the driver of a Model S or Model X, it is almost ALWAYS an old white man. And guys, I’m not trying to be racist or anything, I am trying to get a point out there.
So who is going to buy Musk’s new “affordable” car, the Model 3? The idiots who are too young and stupid to understand what they are buying. So now everyone will have a Tesla. [EDIT: Non-petrolheads buying cheap electric cars could mean more gas for us!]
Think about it, who the hell is going to buy a 1000hp minivan? (Faraday future FF 91). The guy who wants to be “new school” so he can “beat a Ferrari in a drag race” and be a sleeper owner. No. More like an overrated, boring electric-minivan-that-happens-to-accelerate-quickly owner.
3. The annoying reoccurring statements about the vehicle
You know what I am talking about. The companies that make these EVs and then talk about the acceleration or the range of their new battery or blah blah blah. Really? The battery gets as far as a thirsty old BMW V8 from the 15 year old M5, and the acceleration is the only thing they talk about because it’s the ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THE CAR. Speaking of acceleration, let me go on a rant about that. Who in the HELL wants a minivan that accelerates faster than a Turbo S?! Or a boat-like quiet sedan that will accelerate faster than an Aventador SV?! Nobody!! Besides the people who think they will be cool if they upload a generic video of a pigeon-winged ugly white minivan beating a 10-year-old F430 in a drag race for the first few meters! Sure, they accelerate UNNECESSARILY fast, but a Model S will run out of steam before it can hit 140! SLOWER THAN AN OLD MINI COOPER S! Comparing a luxury SUV to a high-performance $200,000 supercar just because it can hit 60 quicker is not a comparison. 2 completely different car made for completely different reasons.
Okay, I’m done FOR NOW. I have other reasons. but you probably don’t want to hear them. But one final thing: I respect Elon Musk as a scientific genius, but he clearly has NO IDEA whatsoever about running a car company.
Comments
The cost and carbon footprint created to mine for the metals in those massive car batteries are too big to be sustainable and is much worse than a petrol/oil station. Electric cars will die out faster than you can say keonigsegg.
I wouldn’t count on that. That sands in Canada require using 2 barrels of oil to get 3 barrels out the ground.
That’s before you refine it, transport it, store it.
Please do another rant, i thoroughly enjoyed this.
Haha, maybe! I have to find something to rant about first. It’s not exactly something you can just write, I actually feel strong about the points I made in this- I wrote whatever came to mind
Well said, I applaud you for making a rant post that actually has legit points.
I am gonna keep my opinions to myself now as both EVs and HICEV are on a very early phase and I think judging either one now is just not right.
You sir, won the internet for (at least) next few months. Thank you for writing normal opinion on EVs. People should open their eyes that and see thats as bad or even much worse to produce and run EV as normal car.
Thanks dude! Exactly what I’m trying to show everyone; that EVs aren’t as great as everyone thinks. Basically exposing them lol
Opinions are not the truth though :)
OK, I’ll bite. I’ll agree modern electric cars have a multitude of issues, and the issue of how the electricity they use is generated is a point many overlook.
But if they aren’t the future, what kind of cars are? Cars powered by internal combustion engines, using a finite resource which - when burnt - causes smog in our cities and contributes to global warming?
Don’t get me wrong: I love engines, particularly the shouty, inefficient kind, and it’ll be a sad day when big V12s and the like die out. But it’s massively unrealistic to assume ICE is going to be around forever, and the replacement will inevitably involve electricity.
It may involve electricity, but I have a feeling we won’t be going only on electric cars. Like another CTzen said further down in the comments, there will probably some sort of alternative fuel being used in cars, and people will have a choice on what to buy. But right now, electric cars are purely a marketing scheme to make people think they are saving the environment. In 10 years? I might change my mind. But not yet.
I agree
Well freakin’ done, Blaze :)
Thanks Kas!
I do not agree at all…
Your point number 1 you point out that EV’S aren’t better for the environment. Now that is true, but hey, what if I told you that EV’S help a lot when it comes to local pollution.
Your 2 point is completely invalid. Tesla’s are not toys for rich people. They are great cars for families and you say that there is only “white” 60+ men driving them? Wrong. I only see 30-40-50 year old men and woman drive them…
Point 3 is also stupid. You say that they only car is about the acceleration, but the car top out at 140mph. Ofcourse it can’t go faster and neither is it made for it. The battery would overheat if it went faster.
I’d like to point out that many of your points are completely valid. However, if we continue to run our cars solely on gas, and our plants on coal, we are faced with several issues. One is that petroleum will run out, especially since of overproduction right now making it ridiculously cheap. Also, continuing to power with coal will continue to cause global warming, despite many people’s beliefs. We will have to solve this with a mixture of renewable resources, nuclear plants, etc. in order to significantly reduce co2 output.
Also, the people who drive electrics should not be the deterring factor that prevents the development of the vehicles.
Finally, batteries have come along way since the turn of the 1800’s. their range can last as long as gasoline cars now
Made my day
Lol ur welcome m8
