Why I Hate Electric Cars: They Are NOT The Future! #blogpost [WARNING: RANT]
The electric car is something that has been around for a long time. But they have gained popularity in the past few years when a certain few automakers decided that it would be a good idea to sell new ones. Many people will say that the electric car is the future, but trust me, there are actually some legit reasons in this rant why they aren’t.
1. The Automakers/The Environment
The root of the problem is the automakers. Tesla being the main one (I hate Tesla). They make these EVs in an effort to save the environment. In reality, they are just as bad to the environment as fossil fuel cars. For one, they claim that their cars are “zero-emissions”. Think about it, guys, where does electricity come from? Oh yeah, BURNING COAL. As for solar panels and the like? I could make a whole other rant on the effects and inefficiency of those. So “zero-emissions” cars have no IMMEDIATE emissions, but down the line there is pollution occurring. Another reason is how they are made. They are made from metals (which are mined, just like fossil fuels are taken from the ground). They are made in factories, which must be powered by something, right? AND, think about a battery. Batteries like in a Prius are an ecological nightmare; the places they come from, the things they are made from, and how long they will sit decomposing is horrible.
2. The Crowd
Ok, the here’s another reason. The people who are buying these things. Mainly the Teslas. I feel like a Model S P100D is a rich guy’s toy. Why? Because nobody else would buy one. THE two main crowds that will buy these cars are 60+ year old white men (no racism) who want to look cool in front of John and impress their country club buddies, and the other is the rich young Arab guys over in Dubai who are tired of being chauffered around in their “old-school” 2015 Maybach S600s and want to be like the “kool kids”. Seriously, whenever I look at at the driver of a Model S or Model X, it is almost ALWAYS an old white man. And guys, I’m not trying to be racist or anything, I am trying to get a point out there.
So who is going to buy Musk’s new “affordable” car, the Model 3? The idiots who are too young and stupid to understand what they are buying. So now everyone will have a Tesla. [EDIT: Non-petrolheads buying cheap electric cars could mean more gas for us!]
Think about it, who the hell is going to buy a 1000hp minivan? (Faraday future FF 91). The guy who wants to be “new school” so he can “beat a Ferrari in a drag race” and be a sleeper owner. No. More like an overrated, boring electric-minivan-that-happens-to-accelerate-quickly owner.
3. The annoying reoccurring statements about the vehicle
You know what I am talking about. The companies that make these EVs and then talk about the acceleration or the range of their new battery or blah blah blah. Really? The battery gets as far as a thirsty old BMW V8 from the 15 year old M5, and the acceleration is the only thing they talk about because it’s the ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THE CAR. Speaking of acceleration, let me go on a rant about that. Who in the HELL wants a minivan that accelerates faster than a Turbo S?! Or a boat-like quiet sedan that will accelerate faster than an Aventador SV?! Nobody!! Besides the people who think they will be cool if they upload a generic video of a pigeon-winged ugly white minivan beating a 10-year-old F430 in a drag race for the first few meters! Sure, they accelerate UNNECESSARILY fast, but a Model S will run out of steam before it can hit 140! SLOWER THAN AN OLD MINI COOPER S! Comparing a luxury SUV to a high-performance $200,000 supercar just because it can hit 60 quicker is not a comparison. 2 completely different car made for completely different reasons.
Okay, I’m done FOR NOW. I have other reasons. but you probably don’t want to hear them. But one final thing: I respect Elon Musk as a scientific genius, but he clearly has NO IDEA whatsoever about running a car company.

Well said.
Thanks!
“Who in the HELL wants a minivan that accelerates faster than a Turbo S?! Or a boat-like quiet sedan that will accelerate faster than an Aventador SV?! Nobody!! “
First of all, thank you for not automatically going to the “no noise=no good” argument that really isn’t a measure of a car’s performance (and annoys the team over at Poderra a god lot)
Anyways, counter argument:
You must give time for the technology to grow. It’s been a good 100 years since EV’s have fist hit he scene, and only now are they being invested in. They are much more efficient than their petrol powered counterparts. And in any circumstance you will always be doing harm to the environment. We cannot rely on the dead dinosaurs forever. We can’t keep burning coal and drilling oil, for soon we run out. The ICE will be phased out (though props to Koenigsegg for getting as much out of them as possible).
My main issue here is that you are focusing on the present day. Extreme acceleration is intoxicating (trust me, a 400 turbo 996 is rather insane, as is a 600hp z/28), but the real reason for this is to add some life into the cars. To hype us up, and showcase new technology as it comes out. If it was a 100hp 4 tonne sedan, we would not pay any attention to it. It gets us excited for what EV’s can do. Eventually, we will phase out coal and oil power plants, so the argument that charging is causing “extreme harm to the environment” is as useless as saying “we need to ban electric trains because of where they get their power”. The future should be promising, so don’t look at the limited selection we have today, but look at its evolution over the last past decade. Range increases, production methods better, motors becoming more efficient. It may not be next year, but the ICE wasn’t an overnight sensation. It’s taken it 100 years to spread. It took us 10 to land on the moon. and between skylab and the first iss module, about 20 or so. So give it five years or so, and you’ll have petrol car makers thinking how the hell to keep up with the electric competition, new hydrogen vehicles, and cars powered by salt water.
I fully agree. Before blaiming the cars for pollution, we should focus on the main cause of emissions which are the power generation plants. Cars emissions are a saml fraction compared to burning coal, and other fossil fuels to generate power. But of course is mutch easier to fool a lot of people and make them buying electric cars to make them feel good and pretend they are saving the environment, than go after the big power companies that controll most of the government anyways…
Also the politicians pretend they are doing something for the environment to get sympathy from people.
I don’t want to sound like a hippie or anything like that, but in my personal opinion, cars have no souls. I mean that in the sense that they don’t invoke emotions inside a person. I also read somewhere that gasoline engines have only reached a small percentage of their potential power and efficiency. I am not entirely sure if this is true though so please take it with a grain of salt.
