What's everyone's opinions on car bras? Functionality, not looks.

I put a lot of mileage on my Focus, and as a result have some paint chips. Those will all be gone soon, as it’s getting a new front end. Should I put a bra on it, when I do long highway trips? Will it scuff the paint, or do any other damage?

Only on certain cars like the E36 for example. Otherwise I don’t really like them, they cause rust.

But if it’s just short term highway driving, where it will only be on a for a few days at most, it should be fine. Rust won’t hapen that quickly.

They honestly do next to nothing. As soon as dirt or sand gets under them they scratch and chip the paint just like normal driving will

Dirt wouldn’t really get under it in a few days of driving. I do however have quite a few chips on my front end from highway driving.

They look bad, you could probably just spray some plastidip / a clear protection spray.

It’s not looks that I care about. It’s being able to put it on and off for highway use.

Could save you from a touch-up later on. (Primer on silver).

Yeah, that sucks. My Focus had an accident, so I get a new hood, amongst other things. Want to keep the parts looking new.

For the love of God, don’t. They’re a complete waste of money and time. They look awful, don’t actually protect very well from dirt, causes paint to fade unevenly and bleach different, and above all that, they sag and can cause damage to your paint.

It’d only be on the car for a few days at a time, at most. Just to keep stones from chipping my paint on long highway drives, which I occasionally do. Most of the problems you mention therefore won’t affect me.

They keep stone chips from making your car ugly, but you have to drive around with an ugly car to do it.

Since it’s only short term on the highway, and ugly hood then is better than afterwards having chips all through it.

Yeah, that’s a more typical style.

If you going to smash your focus into the tree with 100mph on the clock do it.. Otherwise there is no point

Pretty sure that would total the car, and therefore not make sense.

I think that it is a really good idea for your particular situation to protect it but not many others seem to understand what you are using it for they dont seem to read very well, if fitted properly bra shouldnt do any damage for that length of trip

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Rust and other things won’t occur in that small frame of time, and it’s lack of visual appealment doesn’t matter.
