#ChallengeTime CTzens: You are given a Geo Metro and a budget of 5000 US Dollars, your goal is to turn the Metro into a high speed Time Attack car! Rules Below.
Rules :
Engine Swaps are allowed.
Forced induction is allowed.
Aerodynamic Mods are allowed.
Car must be road legal in the USA.
The Geo Metro must be kept FWD.
The track is Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
(The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR holds the current production car lap record with 1:28.65.)
Comments
1) weight reduction bro
2) (not sure this is actually possible) find an s2000 engine and mount it to a different fwd Honda tranny. High revs and lower torque helps a fwd car.
3) must have some larger rims and tires, 15 inch probably. But not so big as to rob power.
4) use whatever is left to fabricate some aerodynamic help on the car
Geo Metro 1800-1900 Lbs
Stock Engine 55-70 Hp
Chevy 1.3 4 cylinder swap with Suzuki Swift ECU =100Hp (Theoretically Wheel) $500 (mainly due to popularity and demand of ECU engines are dirt cheap and can even be picked up for free)
ACT clutch Kit ($400)
HR Sport Springs, Struts, Sway Bars ($350-400)
Power Stop Brakes and stainless Braided Brake Lines $200)
Weight Reduction: Remove hatch by cutting and convert to “Truck”. Remove rear seats. Add Roll Cage ($100)
Add a Nitrous Kits with 50Shot for accelerating out of Corners and on the straights. ($700)
Add a second bottle so you don’t run out of Nitrous ($400)
Current Total $2700. You can use the $1300 for anything from Labor so you don’t get your hands dirty. To Race Helmet, gloves, jacket and shoes. To Recaro seats and Carbon Hoods. Don’t Forget 101 -110 Octane, and Foot Shaped Gas Pedal.
Or if your heart desires. A $400 EBay Turbo and Manifold $300. And $100 EBay intercooler kit and try to craigslist a Megasquirt ECU MS3 for $900-1200
$5000-5200 Done.
take a light FWD front end, make it into a RWD geo, wheels, tires, fab pushrod suspension. PWN newbs…
Suzuki swift turbo engine swap $800
Coilovers $1,500
Brakes $500
Clutch $900-$1,200
Helmet $300
Tires $850
Still enough left for steak dinner, and a nice big bar tab
$5000 worth of explosives. The challenge is interesting, but it interferes with everyone’s main task in life to rid the world of the Geo Metro. That is a far more noble cause
Take a T5 motor from a volvo. build the motor and the trany. put a bigger turbo. suspension work and some areo body work. bam something fast and that can kill you.
Laguna Seca’s curvy nature means it’s not good for forced induction. Swap the engine for high revving NA, get some decent front splitters and adjust the camber & toe. Ez
Well not much enthusiast of and old suzuki hahahahahah first world after all, well, remove the 3 Cyl and 998 c.c G10 powerplant and swap it with the 1298 c.c 16v G13(B or K) from cultus/swift no adpatations needed.
Gt25 turbo (12 psi, more will cause stock clutch to slip)
koni coilovers (available in USA)
Brakes from Suzuki cultus (add steel lines, a must)
low compresion forged pistons from honda 75 mm.
the 5 strutbars.
15” rims and tyres, the Type R (15x6,5 114,3x4) and toyo proxes
align rear camber as negative as possible (-1.2 degs, the lower the most but don’t abuse)
strip the interior, move battery to trunk
put swift/cultus sway bars (the geo does not come with those)
remove thermostat.
put a fifth injector (assemble the controller with arduino not 14,7 but able to keep with extra air, the injector signal is way easy to catch) a programable EFI will cost a lot.
2,75’ exhaust, no cat. (tiny engine and turbo can supress noise to legal levels)
that car is prone to oversteer, despite being FWD, set the rear harder than front, is a 850 kg or maybe less, with that set up is around 170 hp, not much but for that car is ok, that tiny engine can hold up to 400 hp but for circuit can be overkill and 5k will be not enough, be careful with gearbox is pretty delicate even with that low power is easy to break. belive it or not someone has done something very close to this (incredibly in USA) you can ask them for advise, http://www.superstreetonline.com/features/1311-1990-suzuki-swift-hatchback/ or visit SuzukiRD http://www.pt2w.com/srd/
Buy him a plane ticket (or have him shipped over in a crate). Put him in the Metro. Walk away and pocket the rest.
I break up the metro and sell its components on ebay. I then sell the body of the car either as a roller or for its value as scrap metal. I then take the money I made scrapping the Geo in addition to my $5000 and buy an Acura RSX or other comparable FWD car. Problem solved.
