2001 Subaru Legacy Blitzen

After blowing up my first Subaru Legacy on the Nurburgring, I decided it was time to entre the world of forced induction, with not one, but TWO Turbo’s. Yes, this beast is a Generation 3 variant of the standard Twin Turbo Subaru Legacy. Packing a very similar engine to its Impreza cousin, the Twin Turbo Legacy came with two slightly smaller Turbos rather than the one. This changes the nature of the beast, and means that its very drivable at low revs, as the Primary turbo spoiled early at about 1200 RPM, and provided about 0.9 to 1 Bar of boost. Once past 4000 rpm, the secondary turbo would come on, and after the engine had performed a little balancing act, resulting in a slight pause in power increase, both turbos would work together to achieve 1.1 Bar, but of course, with a much greater flow rate than the single turbo. Standard power output is about 280Bhp, or a little less.

However, with a new set of plugs, an uprated fuel pump, and a few other minor tweaks, you can take these engines to a good mapper, and you could fine tune the map so that the primary delivers the same 1Bar, (although, other changes meant that it was still faster on the primary) and the secondary would come on at about 4000rpm again, however, without the same pause in power buildup, and then rocket on to 1.4 to 1.5 Bar of boost! Once on boost, as long as you change up fairly high, without allowing the revs to drop back below 4k, you could keep the engine on twins, and she produced 320Bhp (dyno’d just days before the crash).

I Loved this car, it was a real animal. I brought some gold STI Brembo’s, which I spent a small fortune having totally rebuilt, repainted, and even had a custom “Blitzen” logo made up, in place of the Brembo logo. The car also had a 12mm modified oil pump, cosworth baffle plate, and 12 row oil cooler.

The car came standard with a 5 Speed gearbox which included both front and rear LSD’s, although it soon needed a new clutch after the remap.

After 6 months, and a small fortune, I was finally nearly done with all the major work, when one morning on my morning commute, a taxi driver (who I believe was on his phone) pulled out from a centre dived to cross my carriage way, directly into my path. I had enough time to get my foot onto the brake, but not enough time to press it. The car was a total loss… :(

Theirs a funny story about that photo.. that was actually the second attempt to get that photo. the first time i turned up at that church, i got out, only to spot coolant pouring out the bottom :O

I topped it back up with water from someone’s garden hose, and nursed it home. 2 weeks, and a new radiator later, I visited that spot again, and got the shot :D

Can I marry you?

I’m currently saving up for an RSK.. yes, as a first car. Employment here sucks, though.

RSK i can personally recommend, i had one as my 3rd car and kept it pristine for 4 years until i got wrecked by a semi. If i could trade my wrx for one right now i would no hesitation.

In Australia, we call that the B4 liberty. Not sure if it’s called that anywhere else.

This is why you put away your phone when you’re driving. You risk destroying a beautiful Subaru.
