Cockpit view vs 3rd person view.

We all played at least one video game that featured racing, but in the world we live in,we see it in different perspectives, even in games. Here are the 2 most popular camera angles along with their advantages.

Cockpit view

In this view,it places you on the driver’s seat of the car you’re driving virtually. This camera angle/perspective may help in making those strong feelings, creating faster solutions when it comes to this view. You can also see what’s happening on front of your car, faster than being on 3rd person view.

3rd person view

In this perspective, your camera is placed a few meters away from your car.In this view, you can prevent accidents more often than being in cockpit view,it helps you see what’s happening on your blind spot.Is he coming for my booty? No?Great!

My conclusion

In cockpit view, you’ll be able to react quickly due to the feeling while in 3rd person perspective, tou’ll be able to prevent accidents very often so…I’ve decided.

Personally,I’d recommend the 3rd person perspective but,it all goes down to personal preference. What’s your side?cockpit or 3rd person? Why?

Usually I switch throughout a race but if I’m in an f1 or indy car I like 1st person more because the car isn’t that much wider than you are and you’re also in the middle

I used to use 3rd person view, but since I’m learning to drive with mouse (in LFS), I MUST to have 1st person view. Otherwise I spin around in first corner. Or even faster.

In cockpit I find it easier to notice that my car is losing traction, particularly in simulators where the controller/wheel rumbles when you lose traction. In cockpit view, the camera is at the same angle as the car, allowing you to notice any minor changes in pitch and camber, noticing a spin before it becomes a problem. This is especially true in high-speed straight lines, where modified cars with relatively stock aero (Generally my line of choice for cars, though I often get wings and diffusers) tend to lift and lose traction, making small, early corrections vital. i would definitely still recommend 3rd person for arcade games, where straight-line spin-outs and minor traction losses due to being off-camber and other details aren’t included in the handling model, also because in the open world you must drive through gates, small gaps, past pillars and between other cars, making the knowledge of your car’s outer limits a vital piece of information.

I would enjoy cockpit view a lot more if

A: The audio was balanced properly, not 20/80 R/L
B: You could adjust your driving position
C: You get a better sense of speed

I stick to 3rd person due to racing online, better judgement, and because poor sound balancing and poor vision in many cars makes it hard.

I want to see anyone looking for realism take a PC/console steering wheel with decent feedback use 3rd person camera and come back here, tell us all about how it’s just like driving a real car.

Yeah! you can place the car easier, but there’s less obstruction to your view.

3rd person, I’m no serious player, don’t even have a steering wheel and don’t want one
