Many people “face” 20 years, don’t take it seriously, this man got probation for essentially smuggling. No jail time at all
My why is our government such A-holes towards import cars?
These cars have to comply with the DOT and EPA regulations, Nissan never intended to sell the S15 here thus it needs to wait for the 25 year rule or it could be brought in by the show car rule but that isn’t worth it TBH, you really can’t drive it. You could make it fully legal but the amount of money needed will be more than the car itself.
There’s a whole culture and aura around Japanese cars, and the US didn’t want them to overcome their market I guess. I still remember when Mitsubishi wanted to sell Evo’s, they had to lower the output (yup, even lower than the ridiculous 280hp limit) and make a version with automatic transmission if they ever wanted to sell them there. I seriously don’t believe in those emission cr*p since there’s legal old V8 powered muscles cruising around the country, they’re cool, but that can’t be good to the environment. I know this sounds a bit “fanboy’ish”, but that’s my opinion…
They threaten everyone whith 20years it seems, then just give you probation. Florida guarantees 20 for any crime commited with a gun, you’ll end up doing 15
I swear I’ve seen S15s here though. Maybe they were S14s? Hmm..
I saw what I think you’re talking about 2 weeks ago. I live in NY. Essentially, Nissan made the 240SX and 180SX, but sold both of them in the US as different versions of the 240SX. If you have a 240SX that is known as a 180SX abroad, you can do a front end conversion to an S15.
Mericans need to cool it.
F*cking USA. I hate living here..
hey i made that ahah
Hey man, I’m a big JDM guy, but still the Model A Rat rods are awesome! The sound of a Flathead v8 is something you have to hear to believe, kinda like the roar of a bear if you ask me.
Yeah it’s weird because at least in my state they don’t do inspections and don’t care what size your engine is, only that it gets 20mpg (for new cars).
Hate living here ? You know you’re free to go anytime you please right ? There’s plenty of people that’ll be more than happy to take your spot. Boohoo you can’t get a specific car , the price on them would be ridiculous regardless ,and judging by the cars in your garage … Yeah don’t see it happening. Don’t mean to be a douche, but it’s kind of tiring hearing ppl complain about this 24/7
This is a really inaccurate meme. Nissan chose not to have the Silvias tested due to the poor sales of the early/mid 90’s 240sx. You can’t pass a test you don’t take.
I’m so glad that i’m not an american.
mhm this is why I’m not coming to USA… guys you have to do something about the stupid rules you have in your states.. thank god I was born in Europe
It’s good living in Europe but not anywhere that they visit
When these cars are legal to own here, most of yall arent gonna be able to afford them. Thonking that it costs about 3k to ship a car on a boat.
Not the point, btw 3k is nothing
You idiots didn’t even read the article: “Noble got off relatively light compared to that maximum sentence and fine, however. According to court documents, he pleaded guilty to a charge of smuggling goods into the U.S. and was sentenced on Jan. 30 to 36 months probation and a fine of a bit over $18,000. His plea got the other federal charges — four counts of wire fraud — dismissed. Noble was indicted last year.” You smuggled a massive across an ocean, what did you expect to happen?
I’ve seen this posted a couple times, and I knew right away they didn’t read the article because they didn’t see he didn’t even get the full sentence. I agree with you 100% you broke the law, you have to face the consequences. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime.

Adding to this, according to Jalopnik, he didn’t declare that his container contained a Nissan Silvia. This is why he got sentenced for smuggling good.
