Guys, can we please stop posting "Ricer spotted" pictures of cars that clearly aren't riced?
Rice is becoming a word that means “anything other than stock” Not the spoiler infested, flamboyantly coloured 90’s hatchbacks that are buried under a mountain of sponsor stickers like the way the word started.
If it has a small understated bodykit in the same colour of the rest of the body, It’s not.
If it has a tiny bootlip spoiler, it’s not.
If it has 3 stickers on its rear bumper, it’s not.
If it has a carbon bonnet, is slightly lowered and has non stock wheels, It’s still not rice.
To stop this unfairly rice calling, I will formulate a definition of rice right now to end all this.
For a car to be considered rice, it has to fit at least 3 of the following descriptions:
1 - Have a non-stock spoiler that writes visual cheques the engine can’t cash.
2 - more than 50% of the outer surface of the car has to be covered in stickers(Excluding wraps), body kits, functionless air induction kits or be changed so much, that it’s hard to see the original car.
3 - have an exhaust bigger than 5”, louder than a starting jet or have a noise similar to farting through a megaphone.
4 - Have certain parts painted matte black to resemble carbon fiber.
5 - Have more than 3 non-stock body parts that look like they are functional but actually aren’t.
Feel free to give your opinion, modify, improve and discuss(please, keep it clean). If everything goes well, we end up with the unofficial CT definition of “Rice”. Thank you.

Love the list. Agree fully. But can the tip be 4”? I mean really unless it’s a big truck exhaust shouldn’t be too much more than 3”
I thought rice was Racing Inspired Cosmetic enhancement
Race Inspired Car Engineering.
Radically immature car enthusiast.
I agree. Most of what I want to do to my G37 is visual. I’m pretty happy with the performance already. I just want it to look more unique. I don’t think that makes me rice.
brilliant 100% agree
Adding on #4 not all matte black body parts are made to look like CF, some people might put on matte balck because it looks nice and not to look like CF.
Exactly , I painted my spoiler rims and gas cap matte black because well it looks good . Not for a carbon fiber look
I painted my damaged fender half matte black because it was bright green painted before by mechanic. I guess you cant call that rice, more like derice
this is proper ricing, great list man
AHAHAHA THAT IS SICK.
OG RICE LYFE
I don’t really approve of this. (hate me or love me, it doesn’t matter its my opinion). Most of the posts I see now are filled with “Rice specialists” commenting on how a wing isn’t functional or how there’s a sticker here etc. Like guys come on. This site is about coming together and appreciating cars, not coming together to hate. That would be Facebook.
Also, why does everything have to be functional? Not everything in our lives is functional. The way we dress usually isn’t functional. You don’t need that logo on your shirt or the design. It has no purpose other than aesthetics. So using the “rice” logic you should get rid of it and burn it. The thing we forget is that sometimes these cars that have modifications that do not have a function may be someone else’s pride or life. These “riced” cars sometimes have more time, money and effort than most of the people on here have ever put in a car. I also highly doubt everyone here has a “built not bought their car.” So please guys stop the hate. You don’t like a car, either keep it to yourself or find a mature and nice way to say it.
Goddamn thought police over here. If he doesn’t like a car or how a car has been modified, he’s entitled to say so. He’s phrased his post very maturely, what’s your problem? Also, putting “hate me or love me, it’s my opinion” and then sayig what we should think is a tad hypocritical, no?
I approve of this message.
Exaclty… I put exhaust and wheels on my Civic 1.4 it’s rice but when someone puts just those two things on something lets say a BMW 325 it’s called tuning… people should stop trying to make themselves feel better like “my taste is better than yours”-
You forgot tribal decals :P
My 2001 Toyota Yaris TS is stock, and I think it’s better ;)
The thing that bothers me is that people get worked up over some modification not having a performance significance. Then (sometimes) they blindly throw performance parts at their own cars (coilovers, cut springs, wheels, spoilers, exhausts etc) that aren’t properly set up and say their car is performance oriented. Car manufacturers don’t just throw performance parts into a bucket and sell what comes out the other side. They go through extensive testing to see what modifications help the performance the most, and what set ups don’t hurt other factors of the performance too much.
Part of a cars core functions is to look good. Who cares if you do a few sidestrips or a spoiler. the word rice exists because some people like to take the visual thing too far. It’s like too much ketchup on your fries for some people. And who cares if you’re a ricer or not, we’ve all been one at some point (NFS anyone?).
