Toyota MR2 as a first car?

I’ve been hitting up the classifieds for my first car, and found a mint condition W20 1993. MR2. I am really really tempted to buy it, im sure its in mint condition, but what im worried about is the fact that its a 2 seater and lack space, is it awesome enough to overcome it? Any info, especially from owners is greatly appreciated! Cheers

Yeah i agree with you on that one. But being young im also taking it on a lot of trips, so i think the luggage will be minimal lol.

They are beautiful and fun as hell but watch out for the snap understeer. Come into a turn to fast and you will lose the back end faster than my cousin running downstairs on thanksgiving

Why does this car have spoiler stands but no spoiler? (Wish I could help you, but I know nothing about owning this car…)

I’d say its for aesthetics probably

All the drag and none of the benefits xD

It’s because they’re smart and it’s detachable. Looks good without it, and with less drag you should save a little money on gas.

It’s a TRD adjustable rear wing with the carbon(stock!) part missing. The car is a TRD replica which I wanted to achieve with mine but I don’t like how low this one sits and I would leave the spoiler carbon part but apart from that this is one sweet mr2, there is a lot of youtube vids about it

I think this is the famous Devil MR2 in Chicago. Apparently the middle part of the wing got hit by something and fell off an the owner liked the look and left it that way. Everyone thought it looked like Devil horns and nicknamed it the Devil MR2.

Super tricky question. It’s my dream car, and I would have loved to get one sooner, but I’m not sure if I would have handled it right if I did.

In case you’re curious, that one has the TRD 2000gt body kit.

Not a good idea. You are a newbie, so you don’t want snap oversteer. However, I heard that issue is only on the 2nd gen MR2s.

An alternative would be a Miata (watch out for rust) or a 316-318 E36 (not sure whether or not maintenance is expensive for them in Croatia).

All three gens of mr2 are quite easy to snap but the mk2 rev1 is the most prone to it. As an MR2 sw20 I would recomend it as a first car only if one can keep a cool. The mr2 makes you wanna push it and that’s why they are a “dying breed”, people with no mr layout expirience buy them and crash them ‘cause they think it’s just a rwd car

Well the Miata is a bit more popular here in Croatia, but i think id have a harder time finding the parts for it than a MR2.
The BMW on the other hand was my first idea for a starter car, but 90% of them here were molested and in pretty bad condition, would not have fun with the repair bills lol.

If you can keep a cool head go with it! It’s a dangerous car for unexpirienced driver but it you take it slowly there shouldn’t bee any problems, just be sure to skip rainy drives untill you get some dry road expirience :) my sw20 is almost completely rebuilt so if you’ve got any questions feel free to ask

Yeah if you try to get serious speed on wet roads without experience you will probably wreck the car and kill yourself… but if you keep your cool and manage to survive the first ten thousand miles you can proudly say that you have some skills…

As an na mr2 sw20 rev3(with rev4 engine) owner I can say that people mostly say stupid things about the sw20. Yes, snap oversteer is a danger but not that much on an na Two, turbo is prone to it quite more. All in all, the MR2 is not as dangerous as people say, it’s the unexpirienced driver that push it to the limit and have no idea o how to drive an mr layout car. I had my Two for 5-6 years now and expirienced snap oversteer just once. Now lift off oversteer is something you need to be worried about since most people automaticaly brake if they see something in the middle of the corner

If you’re at least 30, then yes.

Naaaaah, you can drive it as an 18 year old just need to know what you are doing and have to be aware that it’s an mr layout car
