Toyota MR2 as a first car?

I’ve been hitting up the classifieds for my first car, and found a mint condition W20 1993. MR2. I am really really tempted to buy it, im sure its in mint condition, but what im worried about is the fact that its a 2 seater and lack space, is it awesome enough to overcome it? Any info, especially from owners is greatly appreciated! Cheers

Just don’t get yourself killed. Those things are JDM versions of the Carrera GT.

They’re brilliant cars, great fun to drive and look awesome, but you have to treat them with respect, given the MR layout. If it’s a Rev 3 onwards model the snap-oversteer isn’t as lethal as on the Rev1/2 cars.

my second and third cars have been MR2, easy to die in, easy not to die in… just be careful and don’t underestimate it, just respect that and you’ll find your limits and best techniques…

as far as practicality, drive it hard and its a thirsty car, take it easy and its not bad on fuel, also, i have been on an airsofting weekender in my mr2, long trip with around 4 guns, all in cases and camping equipment etc. It carried it all no problem!

Buy one and have fun

No.

It’s a great car, but your first car should be something slow that understeers, so when you push it, you can maintain some semblance of control if you lose it.

The MR2 isn’t going to go out of its way to oversteer, but people who don’t understand the dynamics of it are the ones who gave it a reputation for snap oversteer.

Personally, I love feeling the weight transfer when I’m turning and change the throttle position.

And as for the space, the 1st and 2nd gens have decently usable space. it won’t work in every situation, but 75% of the time it will do just fine. The 3rd gens have the least usable space.
