I think the geo metro is based on the Suzuki swift right? Well find a good engine from a swift gti from Japan plus other parts, good suspension an brakes, get rid of the back seats and reduce it’s weight to maximum. With 140-150bhp in a lightweight chassis and a good driver I think it is feasible.
V6 swaps, and stiffen suspension, and put slicks on it
Ok not American so I’ve never actually encountered a geo metro or have had access to one, so I’m taking a couple guesses as to the general weights/dimensions and strength of the car. Exchange rates e.t.c I’m gonna take £3300
This is assuming the car is in the uk with access to uk bits and free labour:
First of all down the scrappies were on a budget!
find an old vauxhall cavalier turbo C20let, as the engine and box is small enough that it might fit and are beefy enough for our purposes
chop out whatever garbage is under the bonnet of that geo and put that in.
Probably bodge and graft the existing metro radiator to the cavalier engine, pull an heftier intercooler out of a truck and front mount it.
about £1800
because noise control is for wimps straight pipe out of the back for an exhaust, recycling is good.
£50
chuck a Second hand megasquirt in there so we can get the engine running right, and a cheeky wee manual boost controller give it a touch more than she’d be normally happy with, It doesn’t have to last!
£300
Strip everything not required on the inside of that car out, interior, dash, frivolities.
£freeeeee!
Chuck a set of decent coilies (coilovers) on there, get her a bit stiffer and lower, spend a couple days playing with it till its right.
£400
Decent rubber all round
£250
Hydro handbrake cos your a maaaad man and this car really has not got to survive this lap
£50
Go faster stripes
£5
put a decent set of brakes in there, be it off a kit or something else that fits. just as much stopping power as you can add.
£300
chuck in a cheeky little wizards of nos nitrous oxide kit in the boot you’d probably pull off a 30 shot.
£400
You’ve got a bit of a track weapon/deathtrap there I don’t know if it would be a viper eater but it would go some with about 230bhp in a very light car.
that’s what I’d try
Used hyabusa off craigslist for $3000, whine swap. Wengardium leviOsa that b*tch in there, and then remaining $2000 on rubber and suspension mods to be able to put that power down. Still won’t get you laid tho…..
If the Focus ST can do it in under 1:50, this can’t be that hard to do. I little more power and a decent amount of suspension work with some fat tires should easily throw this Geo over the line in under 1:50.

My tactic would be to swap in the SVT Focus power plant and try some moderate power mods maybe even some spray for the straights and then some suspension swaps from the Swift that everyone seems to mention. Obviously tin can the whole thing like a haggard. I wouldn’t worry about a roll cage. Just throw the fatest stickiest tires you can get on there with some garden barrier for some cheap fender flares MCM style to keep it legal.
Finally, never lift. Enter every corner as fast as possible.
Honda B20 swap, eBay turbo, custom header, Megasquirt, hyabusa coilovers, some aero racing wheels with Hoosiers, everything unnecessary stripped, build a cage, speed holes everywhere, and one of those cheapy aluminum seats.
Spend $5000 on stickers and it’ll have 2500bhp. The car is still FWD and it’s road legal anywhere. :P
Okay, I’m not from the US, so I’m going off of Craigslist prices, so bear with me.
I’m going to Honda-ify everything, since they have so many options for aftermarket parts.
Honda K-series engine (found a JDM K20A2 for cheap)- 550$
A ‘96 EM1 parts car (for the majority of suspension parts) 400$-~150$(scrap value) =250$
KSport Kontrol Pro coilovers- 870$
Used Rotora 4-piston front big brake kit with drilled/slotted rotors + some off-brand drilled/slotted rear rotors (gonna use the stock Civic front calipers) + EBC Yellow stuff pads + some decent brake lines- 600$+90$+~300$+~75$=1065$
Enkei RPF1 rims + Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R tires- 800$+475$=1275$
Used Sparco bucket seat + used NRG boss kit + some wheel + short throw shifter- 150$+45$+60$+20$=275$
Plywood for aero + steel tube for roll cage and straight pipe- 50$+150$=200$
Sell the stock Metro interior to some unlucky chump- -50$
OBX cams for a bit more juice- 350$
Tons of time spent on fabrication and backyard engineering- priceless
Grand total- 4735$ + the Metro
The rest goes for some odds and ends, and we’re done!
Can I just sell the metro and use the $5000 + what I get from the metro to modify the car I have
Take the engine and everything inside out…then put a 1400ccm 4 banger motorcycle engine in the backseat it and turbocharged it (about 3000€ 2nd hand)… wide tires and coillovers, super smal petrol tank in the front…
