The model born from this idea was the vehicle known as the GTO. Pontiac’s intermediate class Tempest was initially released to the market in 1964, and it had a sports grade called the Le Mans.

To showcase its involvement with these bikes, Suzuki created the GSX-R/4 concept car, which was unveiled at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show. As the name suggested, it was a 4-wheeled version of their GSX-R Super Sport bike.

Nissan engineers had the ideal engine for this class: a newly developed 3.5-liter twin turbocharged V-8. Their quandary was where to put this motor. It didn’t take long to find an appropriate candidate. Dubbed the R89C, the race car was built upon a chassis co-developed by the British company, Lola.

The description from “Gran Tursimo” The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, held each summer on the Pikes Peak Highway near Colorado Springs, USA, is the world’s largest hill climb race. It is a 20.0 km course that rises 1400 m from 2800 m to 4301 m, featuring 156 corners ranging from highly technical 60 km/h hairpins to spectacular 200 km/h high speed corners. There is a temperature difference of 20 degress from starting point and the finish line, and the conditions are severe at best for the competition car.
