Old Rear Wheel Drive Pickup Truck This category has a lot of options and a lot of cheap ones at that. I can either get a manual or automatic truck. However, the manual trucks may have 4 speeds which are basically 3 speeds with a granny gear. That means that you basically get the same speed with both transmissions, meaning transmission choice may not be as important. You can also get some gigantic engines in these things, no replacement for displacement…

I have talked a bit about how cars are a reflection of the habitat in which they live. Now, I will talk about how cars reflect the culture of the country/continent that they were made in. Here we go… America

There are some cars out in the world that while they don’t fit the muscle car mold, they have some muscle car blood coursing through their veins. One: Nissan GT-R R35 There is no denying that a stock R35 GT-R can be stupid quick in a straight line, to the point where it seems cornering ability takes a back seat. What’s cool about the R35 GT-R is that there’s room to play with, meaning it’s possible to make the car much faster than stock, even though it’s super fast stock anyway. Two: Bugatti Veyron

It appears my search for a project car is finally over. Me and my father have found a decent 1978 Ford short bed pickup for 2,000 USD. We’ve looked it over and test drove it, only thing left to do is get it checked out by a mechanic on Monday, the wait isn’t very pleasant. Why didn’t I get something like a Miata? Let me explain… One: I Am An American Car Enthusiast This point is pretty self explanatory, Camaro fans usually don’t buy a Miata for their first car. Two: The Truck Is In Decent Shape

I have come to realize that American muscle cars and pickup trucks aren’t really a worldwide phenomenon. Sure, there are muscle car clubs in Central Europe and Malaysia, but in those places there are a lot more JDM and Euro clubs compared to muscle car clubs. It’s relatively easy to be a Euro or JDM fan pretty much anywhere across the globe, but not so for muscle car fans for many reasons.

There’s more to the American car scene than quarter miles. Here are some great American vehicles that aren’t muscle cars One: Chevrolet Corvette Currently a world class sports car, the Corvette has been challenging deep seated European competition since 1953. While it may be cheap it’s really fast. The Corvette ZR1 went around the Nurburgring in 7:19.63, that’s faster than a Ferrari Enzo. It’s all become pretty classy as of late.

I am fully aware that the subject of hood scoops has been talked about before and in good depth as well. So, instead of me talking about all the technical stuff and butchering it, I’ll put up a good technical article on hood scoops and then speak my mind a little on the subject.

The muscle car has been a staple of American and Australian culture for decades. They enjoyed a heyday in the 60’s and early 70’s and currently there are some pavement tearing cars for sale at the dealership. However, the muscle car as we know it may soon become extinct. Let me tell you why…

I’m sure most of you already know how to make a car go around corners better or drift better, but not many people know in detail how to make a car accelerate better. They may think that you can just throw a bunch of horsepower at the car and it will just run 9 second quarter miles all day every day. There’s more to it than that, a great drag car has some fine tuning throughout the car to make it go fast. One: Nitrous Oxide

Car enthusiasts often believe that weight is the enemy of performance, and for the most part they’re right. Lighter cars tend to get better fuel economy, are usually quicker in a straight line and on a racetrack, etc. However, there are certain aspects of car performance that can actually benefit from a little extra weight. One: More Traction

You may be expecting me to talk about muscle car guys, JDM guys and drift guys, but that’s not the point of this list. I’ll take a look at the types of petrolheads that are more under the surface and apply more to petrolheads of all walks of life. Here we go… One: Appearance Car Guy

One: Track Day Guy Track day guy is all about racing, track racing that is. Their favorite cars are probably the Camaro Z/28 and the Mustang GT350. They can usually be seen at SCCA autocross events, track days and sometimes country back roads with lots of curves. Their favorite racing series is Trans Am racing and they mod their tires and suspension more than their engine. They love manual transmissions and are probably secret European and/or Japanese car enthusiasts. Two: Drag Racing Guy

Car Throttle has recently made a video about iconic engines everyone should know about. While watching it, I noticed the severe lack of American engines; so I decided to make a list of my own. Here are some engines that all muscle car enthusiasts should be aware of. One: Ford Flathead V8

Let me just say that I’m a pretty big muscle car enthusiast myself. I’m just taking an objective look at their flaws, because almost everything isn’t flawless I will look at the obvious and not so obvious flaws of muscle cars and here they are… One: Muscle Cars Aren’t The Best At Cornering

Believe it or not, there are some cool American cars on the market that isn’t a prancing pony or its Chevy rival. When I say “cheap” in the title, for this post that will mean anything under $10,000 for sale in America. There are some hidden gems out there that can also be had for cheap if you look in the right place… One: Plymouth Duster, The Charger’s Little Brother

Like pop culture in general, each decade of the 20th and 21st century has unique things that make it stand out. For example, the 60’s were about Hippies, the Beatles and Rolling Stones, and drugs. The 80’s was about big hair and makeup, unique music and attire and Ronald Regan (Margaret Thatcher for you Brits). In a way, car culture over the years has the same thing going on, where decades in car culture are remembered by specific things. Here they are… 1950’s: Hot Rods, Drag Racing, Tail Fins and Whitewalls, Drive In’s and European Sports Cars

As the old saying goes, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. While putting a rotary engine into a Mazda mini truck sounds like a good idea, in practice it really isn’t and here are some reasons why. One: Lack of torque and a peaky powerband Rotary engines aren’t known for their abundance of torque, and a lot of the things trucks do require a good amount of torque to accomplish. Also, rotaries make most of their power high in the RPM range, trying to tow a trailer with stuff on/in it with a rotary would be a pain in the buttocks.

I have written an article talking about why at the time I thought that the horsepower war among car manufacturers was getting out of hand. Now, I will be talking about that topic again with a different perspective and picking different types of racing and driving and talking about if there is a point where extra horsepower above a certain number is pointless.

Muscle cars and JDM sports cars are quite different in their tuning and their intended purposes. Either car could be track monsters or drag strip rats but their intended purposes and factory tuning can isolate them into single categories. JDM sports cars tend to more tuned towards track days and canyon runs. Focus is put on making the car lightweight, the engine more oriented towards high end horsepower and stiff suspension to deal with corner transitions.
